In the annals of sci-fi television, the BBC drama Doctor Who stands alone. Premiering in 1963, the series initially ran for an astonishing 26 seasons before concluding in 1989 – the longest in TV history. Any narrative that contains a time-travelling alien that has the ability to regenerate can never truly end, however, and Doctor Who was resurrected in 2005. The reach of Doctor Who now extends across the Atlantic Ocean to the United States, where it has achieved a cult status that even rivals its native England.
