Green Arrow: The Mike Grell Era

In 1988, writer Mike Grell transported the superhero Green Arrow from the fictional locale of Star City to real world Seattle. Over the course of eighty issues, Grell then constructed “ripped from the headlines” narratives that not only centered on the homeless and drug dealers but the end of the Cold War, the Irish Republican Army, African poachers, and an environmental disaster similar to the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Taken together, they tell the story of a bow-and-arrow slinging superhero – as well as his times.
